Delegation Instructions

Important:

Fake URLs impersonating the secure wallets and UIs used to delegate are circulating on the internet. Always confirm you are using the exact sites we link to here:

  • https://crypto.com/defi-wallet

Currently, delegating is available in the Crypto.org Chain Desktop Wallet, available in Beta mode.

Delegation is also available via the Crypto.com DeFi Wallet, a non-custodial mobile wallet used for the CRO migration and other Crypto.com DeFi services. However, the DeFi Wallet mobile application does not allow users the option to select a specific validator.

In addition, delegating is available using any wallet that interacts with Crypto.org command line tools, which can be accessed in this guide.

Using the beta Desktop Wallet

STEP ONE: SET UP THE DESKTOP WALLET WEB APP

  1. Download the Crypto.org Chain Desktop Wallet library
  2. Ensure Yarn is installed on your machine using these directions
  3. In your CLI terminal, go into the directory for the Desktop Wallet
  4. Enter the command yarn install to install the app dependencies
  5. Enter the command yarn start to launch the web app in your browser, deployed at http://localhost:3000/
  6. Select Get Started
  7. Follow the on-screen prompts to create a password for the wallet application

STEP TWO: Create a Crypto.org wallet

  1. Select Create wallet
  2. Name your wallet and ensure Mainnet is selected as the network

Note: to set up your wallet using a Ledger hardware device, select Want to create with hardware wallet? and follow the creation steps per these directions.

  3. Select Create Wallet
  4. Copy your Backup Recovery Phrase and store it somewhere safe
  5. Confirm that you have written down your recovery phrase and re-enter your app password to continue
  6. Select Go to Home

STEP THREE: Transfer CRO to the Desktop Wallet

  1. Send your CRO ERC-20 Token to the Crypto.com DeFi Wallet mobile application

Note: you will need to transfer a minimum of 250 CRO in order to migrate your ERC-20 tokens to the native Crypto.org Chain token format

  2. Select Crypto.org Coin on the DeFi Wallet mobile application dashboard
  3. Select CRO Migration Tool

Note: you will need to have ETH available in your Crypto.com DeFi Wallet mobile application in order to complete the CRO migration steps

  4. Follow the on-screen instructions to migrate your ERC-20 CRO to the native token format
  5. In the Desktop Wallet web app, select Receive from the left menu
  6. Copy the address that displays for your wallet
  7. On the Crypto.com DeFi Wallet mobile application dashboard select Crypto.org Coin
  8. Select Send and enter the address from the Desktop Wallet web app as the Recipient Address
  9. Enter a memo for the transaction, or select No Memo required for my recipient
  10. Select Next
  11. After confirming your transaction details, select Confirm to send
  12. Your CRO balance should now show under TOTAL BALANCE in the Crypto.org Desktop Wallet web app, following the current network transaction wait time

STEP FOUR: Delegate your CRO

  1. Select Staking from the left menu of the Crypto.org Desktop Wallet web app
  2. Select Delegate Funds at the top of the page
  3. Enter the Bison Trails validator address in the Validator address field:
    crocncl1v2l4sq3lx998d43rt68nxthkzg56mmmke0u0gc
  4. Enter the amount of CRO you would like to delegate in the Delegation Amount field

Note: you should leave at least 1 CRO in your account un-delegated to use for the fee to claim delegation rewards

  5. Select Review
  6. Enter your Crypto.org Desktop Wallet web app password and select Decrypt Wallet
  7. Select Continue
  8. Confirm the details of your delegation and select Confirm to continue

Congratulations! You are now delegated to the Bison Trails validator.

FAQ

The current reward rate for CRO is approximately 8%-12% per annum.

Tokens can be slashed on Crypto.org Chain, up to 0.05% of your delegated CRO. The validator may be slashed for double-signing blocks or extended validator downtime, so it is important to choose a validator carefully.

Bison Trails charges a percentage service fee on all rewards earned by tokens delegated to our validator. The service fee is paid to Bison Trails automatically by the protocol. You can then withdraw your rewards from the protocol directly.
