Delegation Instructions

Currently, delegating is available using Ledger Live and a Ledger Nano S or X hardware device, and also by using a variety of web-based wallets.

To delegate using Ledger Live

1. Install Tezos App and Create Account

  1. Ensure your Ledger hardware device is connected to your computer and active
  2. Within Ledger Live select Manager and unlock your Ledger hardware device
  3. Search for the Tezos App in the catalog and follow the on-screen prompts to install
  4. Select Accounts within Ledger Live and click Add account
  5. Follow the on-screen prompts to authorize the account with your Ledger hardware device and select Add Account

2. Transfer XTZ

  1. Once the Tezos App is installed, select Receive within Ledger Live

  2. Under Account to credit select the Tezos account you just created
  3. Follow the on-screen prompts to authorize on your Ledger hardware device
  4. Copy the public hash code of your Ledger Tezos account that shows on the screen of Ledger Live. You will need this in Step 7 to transfer your XTZ.
  5. Ensure that the public hash for your account matches that showing on the screen of your Ledger hardware device, and, if so, accept on your Ledger hardware device
  6. Select Done on the confirmation screen
  7. Transfer your XTZ from the exchange/wallet in which it is saved by sending it to the Ledger Tezos account public hash code that you copied in Step 4.
  8. Your XTZ balance should now show in your Ledger Live Tezos account. It may take up to 10 minutes to show the balance.

3. Delegate your XTZ

  1. Select Accounts within Ledger Live and open your Tezos account
  2. Under Delegation on the Tezos account dashboard select Earn Rewards
  3. On the pop-up screen, select Delegate to earn rewards
  4. Next to Validator, click Select

  5. On the Select Validator page, click Custom validator
  6. Enter Bison Trails' Baker address: tz2VKFmoD4YSu4tzwgDk1J9oCHStGP85o7gG

  7. After confirming the address is correct, select Use validator
  8. Select Continue
  9. Confirm that the Baker address is correct on the screen on your Ledger hardware device, and, if so, select to confirm
  10. A verification page will show that your delegation is complete

Congratulations! You are now delegating to Bison Trails' Baker.

FAQ

  • Rewards are earned every cycle, but are locked for 5 full cycles (~2 weeks) before the Baker can pay rewards to delegators.
  • Once the Baker disburses your rewards, your rewards are automatically restaked to the Baker
  • The process of Bakers making payouts of unfrozen rewards to delegators in an entirely separate process from the protocol consensus, and is not enforced by the Tezos protocol. The main risk borne by delegators is that of a Baker not relaying earned rewards back to them. As such, delegators must choose reputable Bakers in order to ensure accrued rewards are paid out in a timely manner.
  • Delegators are never at risk of slashing in the Tezos protocol.
  • Delegations become active after ~20 days from initiation, meaning that is when the delegated tokens start counting towards the selected Baker’s staking power. Once active, the delegation begins earning rewards.
  • Bison Trails' Baker pays all unfrozen delegator rewards once every cycle (~2 days, 20 hours).

The annual outstanding inflation rate is set to target a maximum of 5.51% per year.

Bison Trails charges a percentage service fee on all rewards earned by tokens delegated to our Baker, which is deducted during the rewards calculation. At the end of every cycle (~2 days, 20 hours), after the protocol disburses the service fee, Bison Trails will pay delegators their unfrozen rewards.
