HSM remote signers are the safest way to manage and use private keys on blockchain networks.
A hardware security module (HSM) is a dedicated hardware device that securely stores and manages digital keys while still allowing for a fully‐managed, high‐availability transaction signing experience. In other words, assets remain securely offline without losing transaction efficiency. The HSM generates the private keys which ensures they have never existed on any computer or device previously. The keys never leave the device; unsigned messages are passed into the HSM and signed messages are passed out.
An HSM is particularly useful for protocols with significant slashing protocols, as it prevents penalization for double signing by managing the unique signatures for messages.
